Marijuana and Medical Use

that, "selling marijuana is one of the most respectable things that anyone could do." As one anonymous resident of Seattle said, "Today a lot of people look to it as a healthy high."

The truth be known, however, marijuana is anything but healthy. For one thing, it is highly addictive. Addiction is caused and maintained primarily by a psychological defense mechanism called denial. Denial occurs unconsciously. It prevents addicts from perceiving the reality of their situation; they stop seeing the actual cause and effect relationships associated with their actions; for instance, the alcoholic who wrecks his car may think that the solution to the problem is to have another drink. Thus, addicts in denial continue to engage in destructive behavior despite the problems that are created by their actions, however severe they may be. Denial is the fatal aspect of addiction. It does not matter what a person is addicted to, if denial is not confronted and managed, it will eventually contribute to that person's deathby one circumstance or another.
