The current Spanish state was formed by General Francisco Franco, in 1936 (Paxton, 1991, p. 1116). Franco remained in power as the head of state in Spain, until 1975. In 1975 Don Juan Carlos de Borbon y Borbon was sworn in as King of Spain. The country now functions as a constitutional monarchy, with the real political power in the Spain lying with the country's elected parliament. Currently, Spain has an elected socialist government, which is in its second term of office (Tully, 1986, pp. 106 107). Although socialist in orientation, the current government in Spain is pragmatic, and the country's economy is
