ver, my perfectionist aspects of personality drive me to set high standards, be direct, driven and focused on superior results. This can make others view me as intolerant in group settings when trying to achieve goals, if they do not share such standards and drive.

This combination of personality types impacts my creative problem solving in unique ways. While I am often driven to find the “perfect” solution to problems, my affiliation tendencies provide me with flexibility toward others and idea input. However, I find that my affiliation tendency to see that the team “gets along” can often be overridden by my desire to be direct, driven and focused on superior results. This can cause conflict in group settings. However, when I use conflict as a means of highlighting barriers to progress that need resolved, my affiliation tendencies can often help lead to improved solutions.

There are a number of different kinds of barriers to creativity, including cultural, emotional, perceptual, cognitive, and organizational. Emotionally, I often find that a fear of criticism, a lack of confidence, and my state of mind (i.e., stress, anxiety, and pressure) can impact my ability to think creatively. When I am pressured or the environment is hectic, I do not feel that I have the time for reflection and introspection necessary for creative thinking.
