Athletic Leadership

is Tim Flannery, the associate director of the National Federation of State High School Associations in Indianapolis. Based on an increasing number of scandals in college and high school athletics, Flannery argues that “Some of the problems we have now in high school sports mirror the problems they have at the professional and college level. We’re all progressing down the same path. Winning is becoming the most important thing” (Jonsson, 2003, 173). Such a mindset erodes the values and skills that accrue from athletic participation that is balanced.
