The life of Arthur Wisner Rushmore was one of great success, professional respect, close family ties, and one characterized by great ingenuity, creativity and fun. Born in Brooklyn, New York, on May 9th, 1883, Rushmore was one of three children born to Charles T. and Annette “Nettie” Wisner Rushmore (Chronology 1). Rushmore’s father was a partner in a men’s apparel manufacturing firm called Crum & Rushmore. By the time Arthur Rushmore graduated from Adelphi Academy in 1899 he had already demonstrated a zeal for literature and languages (Chronology 1).

In 1910 Charles T. Rushmore became only the fourth mayor of the Borough ten years after the family relocated to Florham Park, New Jersey (Chronology 1). However, by 1904 Arthur W.
