ted on college campuses, many colleges and universities have instituted their own police departments. While some rely on security officers, many have their own sworn police forces. Students, who commit 80% of campus crimes, keep campus police busy (Tritch 32). Campus police must routinely find a middle ground between campus and community, as college students routinely offend local residents in the community with numerous nuisance and other crimes. In their effort to combat crime, maintain order, and enhance overall quality of campus life, campus police are routinely hampered by a variety of obstacles. Often they find themselves in a catch-22 where they must risk offending parents and embarrassing the university’s reputation by doing their jobs and revealing student crime.
