Community College Instruction of Adult Students

On the community college level, however, the educational requirements vary and they are also different from state-to-state. Most states have elaborate certification standards that each require different educational requirements for those who instruct. For example, the Arizona State Administrative Code, Title VII, Education, lists certification standards for community college teachers. Arizona has six different categories of teaching certificates that it issues: The Lifetime Certificate, Regular Certificate, Special Certificate, Internship Certificate, Provisional Certificate, and a District Specific Certificate [See Appendix I].

Each of these certificates comes with a set of minimum requirements and each of them is different with respect to scope of teaching. For example, the Lifetime Certificate enables the instructor to be certified for life with the college while the Special Certificate permits those issued it to teach only 12 or fewer credits per semester.
