., are all practices of employment that an employer must monitor to insure that there is no chance for discrimination. The American Disabilities Act of 1990 was passed to insure these types of fair employment practices are being secured for handicapped. It is a supplement to the 1973 Act already mentioned, and it allows for a two-way process of communication to occur between employers and disabled people, while outlining equal-employment mandates, “The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 prohibits employers with 15 or more staff members from discriminating against individuals on the basis of disability or perceived disability. Employers also must provide a reasonable accommodation for essential functions of a job to qualified individuals. In addition, places of business must be accessible to disabled persons so they can apply for employment,” (Gill, 1994: 1).
