In fact, Banquo not only disregards the words of the witches, but once he senses Macbeth’s ambition is taking hold of his common sense, he tries to persuade him to act similarly, “Spurred on by the partial fulfillment of the three witches prophecy, Macbeth struggles with his ambition and that of his wife’s to take the throne of Scotland by treachery and hold it. Banquo cautions Macbeth against ambition, though he has been told by the witches that he shall be the father of any kings, and he too becomes a challenge to Macbeth’s bloody ascension” (Synopsis 1). However, were it not for Macbeth’s fatal character flaw of searing ambition, he would have been king in time and without having to murder anyone to achieve the position. Yet, his obsessive ambition is only fueled by the witches “fire”.
