Of course, Rocky became an instant hero among working class people everywhere. Like most members of the theater going mass audience, Rocky was an average guy who worked hard for very little, a guy who had to make it on his physical abilities because he had few intellectual ones. Yet, Rocky never loses hope or faith and he remains determined he will prove he is more than a nobody if he can get a shot at Apollo Creed. American audience members related to this character and elevated him to heroic status because he represented the struggles, hopes, joys and pain in their own lives.
