According to the Judaic-Christian conception of God, he
is and has unlimited being, which includes various divine
attributes. For example, God is completely self-existent in his state of being. This means that God is dependent upon nothing but himself; in other words; God has absolute ontological in-dependence. God, then, is eternal, without beginning or end.
If God had a beginning, then something would have preceded him; and if God is to have an end, then there would have to be a reality with the power to achieve this. God's ontological independence is not compatible with these notions.
As is evident, all of these statements about God are really exercises in word play. Antony Flew once stated:
