For example, the occurrence of transference that typically occurs in a relationship between a therapist and an adult client does not take place in the case of a therapist-child client relationship because parents still constitute a key aspect of their children's lives. Therefore, their role cannot be usurped by the therapist. Furthermore, it is unlikely that the child clients who are strongly attached to their parents would develop a negative transference in the therapeutic relationship (Edgcumbe, 2000).
