e classified under this category of ADHD, children must exhibit a minimum of six out of the nine symptoms of inattention, as enumerated in the DSM-IV-R (Wheeler & Carlson, 2000):
Failure to attend to details, which is reflected in frequent errors in school work and other activities;
Problems with maintaining attention;
Failure to listen when spoken to in one-on-one situations;
Inability to comply with directions in order to complete tasks;
Problems with the organization of tasks;
Reluctance and unwillingness to perform tasks that entail sustained mental concentration;
Tendency to lose required objects such as school books for completing tasks;
High distractibility by surrounding environment; and
Exhibition of forgetful behavior (in Wood, 2001).
Furthermore, they must also exhibit at least six out of the nine symptoms of hyperactivity-impulsivity in the DSM-IV-R:
Inability to sit quietly without fidgeting or squirming in the seat;
