Fei Hong films were produced" (par. 6) and more recently these Wong Fei Hong stories have been revitalized and introduced to U.S. in such films as The Legend of Drunken Master (1994) and Once Upon a Time in China (1991).

These Wong Fei Hong films came to be included in the genre of martial arts films known as "wu xia pian" or "chivalrous combat films". The classic "wu xia pian" was typified by its "righteous values and moralistic messages" (Kei, et.al., 2001, par. 7) as well as choreographed martial arts matches. Through common usage, however, the term "wu xia pian" came to be used for all martial arts films, even those that were especially violent and less honorable (Kei, et. al., 2001).

Bruce Lee has been credited as the one who officially brought martial arts to the film industry in the United States. Although born in San Francisco, Lee spent most of his childhood making films in Hong Kong and did not return to the U.S. until he was 18 years old. Thus, he began to develop
