The sweeping powers of that first NLRB act have been modified over the years until today the NLRB has two main functions: 1) to preserve the right of employees to organize and to bargain collectively with their employers or to refrain from all such activity; 2) to prevent and remedy unlawful acts, called unfair labor practices, by either employers or unions.
Even though the Unions may be losing strength as shown above, the second part of the NLRB mandate that still exists -- preventing and remedying unfair labor practices -- has led to a wide range of laws affecting the modern Administrator, several of which will be discussed later in this analysis.
