Duncan's employment status as a teacher and entertainer did, however, fit into Millett's categorization of female employees as distanced from technology and the production of commodities. Fields such as science, industry, and business are male-dominated and therefore are considered more prestigious than the humanities, which are not exclusively male: "One might also point out how the exclusive dominance of males in the more prestigious fields directly serves the interests of patriarchal power in industry, government, and the military" (Millett, 1970, p. 42).
