According to Hickman, et al., Ignatius wrote to the Christians at Magnesia around 115 C.E., mentioning those who "ceased to keep the Sabbath and lived by the Lord's Day." Yet by the middle of the second century, Sunday had certainly come to be identified with the Lord's Day. Justin Martyr described the assembly of the Christian church for worship as a "common gathering on Sunday, since it is the first day, on which God transforming darkness and matter made the universe, and Jesus Christ our Saviour rose from the dead on the same day." The analogy of the risen Christ with that of the rising sun was quickly adopted by Christians.
