However, they also inform Macbeth of the most unnatural acts that will lead to his downfall. Even by the end of the play, Macbeth does not realize that he cannot act against the natural order as he does and not suffer its consequences. He has performed most unnatural acts in his attempt to secure and maintain the throne, but he remains blind to the fact that most unnatural acts will force him from that throne. The witches represent the dark side of nature, both Mother Nature and human nature. Macbeth made the choice to align himself with them, but never realizes the irrevocability of his choice.
