Whether or not affirmative action was, or could ever be, the remedy for inequity in the workplace is debatable. The point is, however, that today the U.S. is becoming increasingly more multicultural--African Americans share minority status with Asians, Filipinos, Hispanics, Haitians, and the list continues. If the affirmative action "band aid" offered by Johnson was intended to redress past inequities to mainly Blacks, it now needs to cover a much broader spectrum of minorities--all calling for their share of the American dream. Could any "band aid" ever be big enough?

In the course of the following argument, it will be shown that affirmative action programs, while inherently well-meaning (and, to that extent, good), simply do not work.
