There are also a number of procedures for reporting cruelty or mistreatment of animals by the public as well as vets, as well as possible ethical violations by AHTs or veterinarians.

Some laws include everything except a human being, others use only warm-blooded creatures, others limit the definition to vertebrates, and still others encompass all living creatures.
