As Cohen (2003) pointed out healing methods may be selected according to healer and patient needs. Some methods are empowering for the healer and some are necessary for the patient. However, the goal of treating the whole person remains the same in all instances, as does the goal of restoring harmony and balance between the individual and the whole. In situations where the healer understands that there is no healing intervention that will cure a deadly disease, the goal is to preserve quality of life to the patient and help him/her understand their disease in a new way. Since the word healing has the meaning to make whole, the goal is to help the patient understand the meaning of the disease and restore harmony with the whole with a feeling of integrity.
