An editorial in The Atlanta Journal (Be bold with reforms, 1999) expressed some of the hopes for the new education reform plan. It calls for: intensive summer programs or a different curriculum for the same grade for students lacking in basic reading, writing and math skills, rather than social promotion; higher standards for those training to become educators; allowing school boards to privatize schools if the public school cannot be improved as is; and steer clear of simply throwing more money at schools in an attempt to improve them.
