Job analysis allows the supervisor to create a summary of a job's duties and responsibilities, to see its relationship to other jobs, to understand the knowledge and skills required, and to ascertain the working conditions under which the job is performed. These facts about the job are gathered, analyzed, and recorded as the job exists and not as it should exist--this is an analysis, not a prescription. The job analysis is performed after the job has been designed, the worker has been trained, and the job is being performed (Mondy & Noe, 1993, 110).

Job analysis is a way of testing the job design. If the employee is to perform satisfactorily, his or her skills, abilities, and motives to perform the job must match the requirements of the job, and a mismatch could lead to poor performance, absenteeism, turnover, and other problems. J
