Issues in Philosophy

Philosophy, in contrast, relies upon logical argument. It may include observations and analyses of observed phenomena, but it concerns itself with determining the meaning of life and may include questions about religion, politics, right and wrong, the nature of the external world, and so forth. The goal of philosophical inquiry is nothing less than understanding and the acquisition of knowledge. Philosophy questions the fundamental assumptions of human existence.

Philosophy can subsume some of the concerns of both science and religion. The mind-body duality problem, the existence and nature of God, the Problem of Evil, the laws governing the natural world, issues of personal identity and being, and relativism and morality are all areas of interest to philosophers. Three are clearly synergies between science, religion and philosophy.
