The importance of understanding contributors to job satisfaction levels among school social workers cannot be overstated. Contemporary schools are suffering from understaffing, over-stressed and burned out personnel, and high levels of job turnover; job satisfaction has been directly correlated with all of these variables (Feldman & Arnold, 1989). It therefore seems reasonable to suggest that by examining contributors to job satisfaction among school social workers, the research may provide insight into explanative factors producing high rates of stress, burnout and job turnover which can be used by the educational system to assist in lowering these problems among school social workers.
