One of the social development tasks teens are learning in adolescence is conformity to social rules. This can cause conflict between parents and teens who as part of their developing maturity, question these rules both behaviorally and intellectually.

By understanding this natural process, parents can approach this period with less authoritarianism in rule-setting and discussion of rules and, instead, exercise greater flexibility. It is best to be authoritative; that is, to have just a few unalterable rules and allowing teen input, modification and change in all additional rules.

Question 2: Describe how different aspects of intellectual functioning change during adulthood. Discuss some of the facts that influence these changes, and describe the types of advice you would give a 60 year old person who is concerned with "not falling behind." Focus on advice specifically relevant to learning, memory, and intellectual functioning in general.

During adulthood, problem solving ability appears to decline but learning-based and experienced-based intellect tends to be maintained. Commonly, intellectual/cognitive ability is stable up to age 60, but this figure is subject to variability depending upon cultural, environmental and health factors.
