The specific purpose of Trivedi's study was to examine the nonformal education needs (e.g. such as the need for nutritional education) of rural women in the sociocultural context of a village. Although this study was conducted using samples of women in India, it seems reasonable to suggest that findings can be used as a frame to regard other Third World countries such as Nigeria.

The objectives of the study were to examine: (1) the physical, social and cultural milieu that influence women's need for and participation in nonformal education; (2) the needs that can be addressed through nonformal education programs; and

(3) the perceptions and attitudes of women toward nonformal education.
