Census data indicates that approximately 70 percent of men and 65 percent of women over the age of 18 in the U.S. are either divorced or currently married; this figure increased to 80 percent of men and 85 percent of women when those who are either divorced or widowed are added in (Perrucci and Knudsen, 1990). Many factors are involved in the continued high rate of marriage.
