These are not line employees concerned with the day-to-day detailed operation of their companies; these are senior managers who oversee the strategic direction of their companies, and there is a cultural bias at this level that would make others not so positioned in their organizations uncomfortable in the unfamiliar surroundings. Again, membership in Legatus does not preclude membership in other groups that might have a broader demographic appeal, but this organization, to be effective, builds on the exclusivity that the membership provides.
3. Government can, in fact, do more than it does to control television programs and recordings that are considered by some to be offensive. The question is whether government should take this step. There is a danger in this type of censorship in that the standard for what is objectionable is not always clear. While overt sexual violence may be repugnant to most, other issues, such as white supremacy, are not so clear-cut. Should programs advocating such views be censored? Since television can be turned off and recordings do not have to be purchased, it seems that the best long-term course of action is to leave individuals to censor their own--and their family's--information.
