For example, they can use what they learn to make decisions about today's leaders and how close to follow them in matters related to nuclear (and other) issues.

With respect to teaching the holocaust, Strom (1983) makes a key point. Specifically, Strom states that it is insufficient to merely school children in the facts regarding World War II and the holocaust; rather, he states, the facts must be presented in such a way that students feel a sense of strength and power to overcome and even change events. Otherwise, they are apt to be taught powerlessness in the face of unyielding and brutal authority.
