therapy helps to establish a proactive, positive environment or milieu in which the client becomes comfortable with self-=disclosure.
. The techniques of CBT, as discussed below, serve to reform cognitive schema and to assist the client in achieving a more accurate understanding of the self and of the environment (Ford-Martin, 1999).
. Both therapies lend themselves to fairly or relatively brief interventions.
. A substantial body of empirical research, some of which is presented below, affirms the general efficacy of these approaches.
