According to Solanas, men suffer from "pussy envy" and are the passive members of the race. She claims men hate their passivity, so project it onto women, and in an attempt to compensate for their inadequacy, they dominate the family, the workplace and, through their war-making, the world. Dederer draws a telling comparison here to Bush's America. Dederer has it right again when she quotes Solana again saying, "

"No genuine social revolution can be accomplished by the male, as the male on top wants the status quo, and all the male on the bottom wants is to be the male on top...The male changes only when forced to do so by technology, when he has no choice, when 'society' reaches the stage where he must change or die. We're at that stage now, if women don't get their asses in gear fast, we may very well all die" (Solanas).

Getting women's asses in gear meant getting rid of men,

according to the Manifesto (Dederer). However, there were no other members of SCUM. than Solanas. She describes it as a 'literary device
