Drug Testing in the Workplace

over the implementation of a "police state" in America. In order to completely eradicate the use of drugs in the workplace, employers must be able to test employees at any time and in any place. If this idea is interpreted too broadly, it may require that people seeking jobs have no privacy at all. It is for this reason that some critics of drug testing fear the threat that "a successful drug enforcement program requires a police state."

There are three basic procedures which may be used for the testing of drugs. Specifically, drug testing can be done "by examining the urine, blood, or breath of an individual." Of these three methods, urinalysis is by far the most accurate as well as the most popular among employers. Urinalysis is able to detect the presence of drugs in a person's body because most drugs stay in the system for at least a few days.
