"SCHOOL-BASED STANDARD TESTING"

d produce fairer testing if applied in other types of testing. In particular, the effectiveness of each test item in accomplishing the goal of the test would have to be demonstrated. Conclusions

In the reviewed article, Bollon (2000) states that the scores from standardized tests may be incomplete or misleading, and that they are often misused by schools. This point is well taken, but his remedy which is essentially that educators no longer use standardized testing, or even try to improve it is not justified. At most, what Bollon has shown is that it would be very wise for schools/school districts not to put all of the weight on a single standard test when making important policy decisions or decisions about students. Further, it is important that educators make sure to work to improve the educational system as a whole and not just focus on more testing or new testing systems.
