In a study of 17 federal facilities, 30 percent admitted to homosexual activity in prison (Ma & Armstrong, 1989, pp. 305-306).

Rates of progression of HIV infection and survival related to different, treated, sociodemograhic groups, have been studied. No relationship between disease progression and sex, race, injection-drug use, income, education level, or insurance status, was found. There were no significant differences in survival found between males and females or blacks and whites. Access to medical care was the more important survival predictor (Chaisson, Keruly, & Moore, 1995, pp. 751, 755).
