The extended scenes that follow emphasize the movement of characters around the circle of the balcony. Even if they linger briefly, they are eventually going to be propelled into their assigned spaces. The Joan Crawford character continues the rapid movement that took her across the lobby and into the elevator, and she goes directly to her temporary employer's room.
