The leadership of Operation Rescue is represented by Randall Terry, a born-again Christian who notes that he was himself an illegitimate child who might be aborted today. He was attracted to the issue of abortion beginning in 1983 when a woman came into his prayer group and brought the topic to the fore, making him think, "If we believe this is murder, we'd better act like it's murder." He then began picketing abortion clinics, and in 1985 he entered a clinic, locked himself in, and was arrested. This as the beginning of his mission. He has built a religion based coalition that is 60 percent evangelical Christian and 30 percent Catholic (Brower & Mason, 1989, 109).
