So we see that group processes play an important role in the occurrence of aggression and violence. The differentiation of people into in-groups and out-groups is always a source of potential conflict. It may, in the extreme form, erupt into open group violence and aggression. Such was the case in Cambodia. The Pol Pot in-group had reinforced its aggressive responses toward out-group individuals through social learning processes of several decades.
