In Edward KleinÆs (2005) The Truth About Hillary: What She Knew, When She Knew It, and How Far SheÆll Go to Become President, the author provides an account of the life and political career of former First Lady and current New York Senator Hillary Clinton. The book is divided into her earlier years and education at Wellesley, her years as First Lady in the White House, her run for Senator of New York, and her plans for mounting a return to the White House as President of the U.S.
KleinÆs account of Clinton is highly unflattering, including depicting her as a power-hungry, immoral woman who will do anything to win the presidency. She is portrayed as obsessed with power and a woman who cannot tell right from wrong, someone Klein (2005) writes that former Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Treasury under the Clintons, Brian DeLong, feels should ôàbe kept very far away from the White House for the rest of her lifeö (p. 268).
KleinÆs (2005) account also makes some startling revelations about the First Lady, such as his questioning of her sexual orientation (he maintains she has lesbian tendencies) and, even more outrageous, that Chelsea, the ClintonÆs daughter, is a product of former President Bill ClintonÆs rape of Hillary. In a hotel in Bermuda, Bill Clinton allegedly told a companion, ôIÆm going back to the cottage and rape my wifeö (Klein, 2005, p. 90). Shortly thereafter, Hillary became pregnant with Chelsea.
Klein also covers HillaryÆs experiences at Wellesley, a time when she adopted a feminist stance that basically precluded a need for men, didnÆt shave her legs or armpits, and cavorted with a number of lesbians. Knowledge of the real goings-on in the presidential bedroom was the source of mystery and intrigues to White House staffers. As Klein (2005, p. 12) writes, ôDid the Big Girl [her nickname among staff] have any interest in sex with a man? Or, as was widely rumored, was she a lesbian?ö
