He has examined all of the available sources of information and has put together a thoroughly detailed reconstruction of all of the events associated with this sorry Affair, from the initial discoveries and conspiracies that led to the accusations against Dreyfus, to the denouement in 1906, when Dreyfus was made a Knight of the Legion of Honor in another courtyard of the same +cole Militaire at which he had been dishonored and when General Picquart, who had at one point fallen from grace because of his advocacy of DreyfusÆs case, became Minister of War. It is an eminently readable book; like many good historians, Bredin understands deeply that ôhistoryö is still essentially ôstoryö and that the historian must keep his reader as interested and involved as if reading a novel.
