Statistics for this meta-analysis included computation of effect sizes using DSTAT software. Relevant effect sizes were coded and mean weighted effect sizes were calculated.

The study results were that an average weighted effect size of -.62 showed a moderate association for the ôspillover hypothesis;ö parenting behaviors most affected by interparental conflict included harsh discipline and parental acceptance. In addition, moderating effects for subject and method characteristics were significant. For example subject characteristics influenced strength of associations between interparental conflict and parenting; effect size was strongest for married families, families with daughters, target children ages 9 to 18 years, and in European American families. Methodological characteristics included operationalization of the constructs which resulted in the inability to examine physical violence between marital partners and its affect on verbal aggression and parenting quality.
