motion helped pave the way for rotoscoping and the work of contemporary Etienne-Jules Marey. Marey was the first individual to analyze human and animal motion relying on video. Muybridge's efforts resulted in such primitive forms of animation as "The Flying Horse," the zoopraxiscope and animal locomotion (Windsor 1). In the mean time, Marey invented the photographic gun. Harold E. "Doc" Edgerton invented high speed stroboscopic photography, which would pave the way for the development of the stroboscopic LED process of motion capture (Windsor 1). These developments were followed in 1915 by Max Fleischer's invention of the "rotoscope" (Windsor 1).

Most animated films of video games of the 20th century were created using what is known as cell animation via the rotoscoping process.
