Aside from clinical research, there are a host of emotional factors involved in the adoption practice for all stakeholders and open adoption seems to resolve many of these issues. For instance, many women who give up their children for adoption are adolescents, many as young as 14 or 15 (Weeks 1). For many, adoption seems to be the best solution due to being unable to support a child emotionally or economically, especially if finishing high school or going on to college is planned. However, closed adoptions create enormous psychological stress for many of these young girls. Lisa, a 15-year-old pregnant girl, found herself in this exact situation.
