1: What are parents' views of their involvement in their child's reading efforts?

Hoover-Dempsey, Walker, Sandler, and Whetsel (2005) reviewed the literature and reported on parent views of why they become involved in their child's education and related factors. These authors concluded that there are many possible factors that influence parental involvement and these include perceptions of involvement. Hoover-Dempsey et al. noted that a parents' level of involvement is based on their perception of their role and their level of role-efficacy. Parent views about their role and involvement in the support of the child's learning and school process must be understood. This role construction is based on gender as well as social and personal beliefs.
