America's Homeless Problem

r why none of the major political candidates really focused on this issue. In fact, one can see that as far back as 1992, the problem was there and no one seemed to care much: "Nearly one of every four children in America now falls below the poverty line, which is pretty far to fall. So where, during the election, did they all go? The candidates spoke about America as if it is one big, struggling middle class, where everyone (but the rich) combats equal odds" (DeParle 1992 para. 1). Today, in the 1008 electionsagain the focus is on the middle class, and "spredading the wealth" hoping that some of those at or just below the poverty line can elevate themselves intop that Middle Class.

It is far too easy to say that the American homeless people are all poor and in dire poverty. While many are, here are some other examples: "What is the cause of 'common' (the working poor) homelessness? In America, while the income of the top percent of the population has increased, the income of the bottom percent of the population has actually fallen.
