As she tells women, "Lady, lady, never speak / Of the tears that burn your cheek-- / She will never win him, whose / Words had shown she feared to lose" (Parker, 2009, p. 1). In this sense, we see that Parker advocates or becomes an activist against the way she has responded to men in her own life. This is ironic, but Parker is actually being sarcastic and some bitterness shows through in the tone of the poem and her sarcasm.

We see that in many instances the personality revealed of Parker is seen in her poetry. This is true most clearly in two respects. The first of these is the way that Parker reveals in her poems the "rapier wit" and "acerbic assessment of human affairs" (Bio 2, 2009, p. 1). We see that this acerbic assessment and wit is surely on display in one of the author's most famous poems in News Item. We see it is also true in the endings of both Resume and The Lady's Reward.
