mmunicate with his son. The fact that Hamlet hesitates to fulfill the wishes of the ghost has raised questions about how the ghost should be played. One view depicts this as a different sort of play with the flaw being that Hamlet believes a false prophet, the ghost. In other words, his flaw is that he believes what the ghost tells him and carries it into action. This is difficult to support from the text, however, and there is no clear indication (as there should be) that the ghost is lying or that Hamlet's flaw is too easily believing the ghost. This would be a problem with dramatic structure in that Shakespeare could not hope to have the fate of Hamlet teach a lesson if the audience cannot readily discern what the lesson is.

The acting style should reflect the importance of what is taking place, and in the Elizabethan theater, this is shown not only in the characters themselves but also in the setting and the way that setting reflects the inner turmoil of the characters. The actors thus must be supported by what is taking place around them, and in this play what is occurring is that the kingdom is in disorder.
