Cancer was the difficulty of the woman in one case study cited by Dr. Winkler. She was in the hospital for the purpose of having her right breast removed due to cancer, and a friend and Dr. Winkler visited her for hypnotism for the purpose of rapid recovery from the surgery. She was asked during the hypnotic session to recall any instance that had an effect on her that resulted in the cancer. She did recall the happening, and after being hypnotized she elected to postpone the surgery. Six days later X-rays were taken and there was no trace of the cancer (57).

It has been found that persons who have cancer often have long-standing, unexpressed emotions of grief and sadness. If they are given the opportunity to recognize and express those feelings, chances are greater for recovery.
