Schlechty is not alone in noting that public schools are in trouble and that a change is needed. Similar calls for change have been made by numerous educations (e.g. Eisner, 1993; Marshner, 1984; McCurdy, 1985; Moore, 1984).
Obviously, one way to prevent the decay of American schools is to provide high quality education such as has been called for by NAEYC in a recent position paper. However, what constitutes "high quality" ...
