Hypothesis Testing of Osteoporosis

rol group. Partial acceptance of hypothesis number two required that the results of fourtosix of the quantitative analyses be statistically significant at p<.05, and that the score means involved in each of those fourtosix analyses be greater for the experimental group than for the control group. A finding of statistical significance at p<.05 for less than four of the seven quantitative analyses required the rejection of hypothesis number two.

A total of three quantitative analyses were performed in the testing of hypothesis number three. Full acceptance of hypothesis number three required that the results of all three quantitative analyses be statistically significant at p<.05, and that the relevant score means for the experimental group be greater than those for the control group. Partial acceptance of hypothesis number three required that the results of two of the quantitative analyses be statistically significant at p<.05, and that the score means involved in each of those two analyses be greater for the experimental group than for the control group. A finding of statistical significance at p<.05 for only one of the three quantitative analyses required the rejection of hypothesis number three.

Hypothesis number one held that elderly women receiving instruction concerning the relationship between osteoporosis and calcium would have greater knowledge concerning this relationship than would women receiving no such instruction. This hypothesis was tested through the application of ANOVA procedures to the data measuring the level of calcium knowledge. The ANOVA compared posttest score means for an experimental and a control group. The experimental group received the instruction intervention concerning the relationship between osteoporosis and calcium, while the control group was not exposed to the intervention. Pretest covariation was controlled in the ANOVA.
